It made them pretty much non-existent. People were too busy worrying about losing their loved ones and their own lives, so they didn't spend much time on entertaining themselves. Theaters and public venues were closed down for fear of spreading the disease, and the only place that people gathered was at church.
Europe lost 1/2 of its population, much of the worlds population died (almost a million people in total) there was famine, fewer workers were left alive so they expected higher wages. Higher wages meant higher prices. Inflation occurred (when the prices rise rapidly). Due to the higher prices on basic needs, people couldnt afford the things they needed to survive and starvation began. Farmers were forced off the land and they were unemployed in towns and people lost faith in the church since they couldn't help with the plagues.
