The the supply of magma and the magma chamber that fed Krakatoa remained intact after the 1883 eruption. Although the original mountain was destroyed, the magma that fed the volcano did not stop flowing, so a new mountain began to build not long after the destruction of its predecessor.

Krakatoa is cyclic in nature. The Island periodically destroys itself and builds back up.

The 1883 eruption of Krakatoa may have destroyed the island, but the magma chamber and the conduit that supplies magma from the mantle remained intact. As a result, magma has continued to flow underground. Material erupted onto the floor of the cladera and has built up into a new volcanic island.

The caldera of Krakatoa formed during a cataclysmic eruption in 1883. The eruption drained an enormous amount of magma from the magma chamber beneath the volcano. Much of the island then collapsed into the space left behind, forming a depression called a caldera.
