Thomas Aquinas was probably one of the greatest philosophers and theologians who ever lived, he was a Dominican, which means that everything he did was for the Church. His greatest work, the Summa Theologia was never finished, St. Thomas was a mystic at as he was working on the Summa, he experienced a vision of God which left him feeling as if everything he had done was so much straw, he never wrote another word. That was in the thirteenth century. To this day, his works are still used to educate priests, they are that good.
The Catholic Church supported education by establishing schools and universities, such as the medieval cathedral schools and the Jesuit educational system. Many religious orders, like the Dominicans and Franciscans, also played a significant role in teaching and promoting literacy. The Church believed that education was a means to spread faith and knowledge to future generations.

I have never heard of such a thing as a 're-education camp' in the Catholic Church. It must be another rumor Satan is spreading amongst his followers on Earth to discredit the Church.
