Catholic AnswerThe question, as asked above, is not answerable for several reasons. First of all the Catholic Church is the Mystical Body of Christ and His Bride. He is with it always, as He promised in the Sacred Scriptures, and He sent the Holy Spirit to guide It into all truth. To say that the Catholic Church misused Its power is to accuse Our Blessed Lord. The question should read: how did individuals in the Church's hierarchy misuse their power? And then you would have to specify a date and a country as the Catholic Church has been around for twenty centuries (as Our Blessed Lord, Himself, guaranteed) and is in every country in the world. To ask such a broad question is unanswerable.
