It changed from a limited war that preserved the union, to a war that abolished slavery for a few reasons. 1. The Trent Affair made Europe mad, and they were going to help the South in the war. Europe "needed" the souths cotton. So Lincoln made a formal appology to Europe saying that they intended to end slavery. This made Europe happy because they despised slavery. 2. This also kept Europe out of the war. Which is good because the south already had the upper hand with General Lee as their commander. If the south had Europes help, the north wouldn't have won.
The northern states were incapable of using limited war tactics and needed a way to put pressure on southern states. In an attempt to do that the northern states set out to eradicate slavery knowing how the southern states felt about this issue. This event changed the Civil War in the United States from a limited war to preserve the Union into a total war in an attempt to abolish slavery.
People like William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson were trying to persuade people to change their minds about the slave trade. However, they campaigned in different ways to different people. Thomas Clarkson was a member of 'The Society for the abolition of the Slave Trade' and he was also a member of parliament. He collected information about the slave trade and about the 'terrible conditions aboard the slave ships.' This included interviewing over 20,000 sailors. He used this information to persuade the working population about how bad the slave trade was. This then ignited protests against slavery across the country, and petitions were collected. In Manchester, over 10,000 people signed a petition in 1788 and 20,000 in 1792. By persuading the working population that slavery was a horrific thing, this forced Parliament and Mp's to abolish slavery. This is because they would want to do what the working population say and think so that they won't get voted out. This was a very effective way of helping to end slavery. Another white campaigner, William Wilberforce, the best, know member of the Society, was also an MP. He made many direct speeches to Parliament about the abolition of slavery. This led to the parliament being persuaded to end slavery and the Slave Trade Act was created in 1807 to abolish slavery in the British Empire, but not necessarily slavery itself. Slavery was still legal in the rest of the world until the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833. THEY WORKED TO ABOLISH THE "SLAVE TRADE". THE CIVIL WAR WAS FOUGHT FOR THE DISMANTLING AND ABOLISHING THE INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY!!!!!
President Lincoln is famously quoted as writing: "If I could free all the slaves and preserve the Union I would do that. Lincoln's primary aim was preservation of and restoration of the Union. Slavery was a very distant secondary concern, even though he was well aware that the cause of Civil War was certainly slavery. The key to his strategy was to convince the legislatures of slave states to change their statutes relating to slavery.
The Bolsheviks planned to abolish private property and establish what was social equality, in their view.

Abraham Lincoln changed millions of people's lives while president. The most obvious being that he was a major reason African Americans were freed from slavery due to his emancipation proclamation enacted during the American Civil War.
It helped to abolish slavery and the election brought forth a conservative majority in the National Assembly, and because of jobs shortage. Instead of helping it really messed things up.
