I believe you are referring to the proclamation of 1763 or something like that where they were not allowed to cross the appellation mountains. They were very angry even though it was for their own good.

the colonists were not permitted to cross the Appalachian Mountain range, thus causing less room for them to farm. when England raised taxes, the settlers had to gain more land to obtain just as much profit from their crops as they had had before this proclamation
