This question is grammatically incorrect. But i think what your trying to say is how did the colonists start to survive when John Smith came into the picture. If that's the case the reason is he formed alliances with the native groups, told the people to start building houses, forts, etc. But the man impact was the Natives who taught them how to survive in America.
