The early days of the Connecticut colony were very tough. A major Indian war called the Pequot uprising, property disputes with their Dutch neighbors, and poor soil in an inhospitable climate were among some of the problems they endured. The settlers persisted, however, and eventually their fur trading efforts, as well as farming started to turn a profit.
