When the fur trade first began, First Nations and Inuit people brought the furs to the trading posts. They would arrive by canoe. The furs would be unloaded and traded for goods such as muskets, axes, knives, blankets, whiskey and pots. It was not long before some of the men at the trading posts decided they would go inland and get the fur themselves. These were the people known as the coureurs de bois.
The days of coureurs des bois ended because the coureurs des bois were bringing to many pelts in so the king set them free
Runners of the wood.
Coureurs de bois traded with Aboriginal people for furs, and then traded the furs to European merchants for money or goods.

Villien étaient des serfs. Les esclaves qui ne pouvaient pas quitter la terre sans la permission des propriétaires. Je demande cela parce que mentalement je suis toujours un esclave et physiquement comme disent les Français, je suis très laid

Jean Nicolet was a French Coureur des bois.
Runners of the woods is the literal translation of 'coureurs des bois', but they were simply called that because they went largely on foot deep into the Canadian wilderness to trade in beaver pelts.
Voyageurs were licensed fur traders employed by fur trading companies, while coureurs de bois were independent fur traders who operated without authorization. Voyageurs typically worked in the fur trade under the control of a company, while coureurs de bois operated outside of company regulations, often venturing into uncharted territories to trade independently.
The first nations changed the coureur de bois life because they helped the coureur de bois work together.
A "coureur des bois", literally "woods runner", was a colonist hunting and trapping animals for their fur, or living by trading by the natives. They did not live in a house, but out in the woods.
