How did the cyclops get its name?

Cyclops is a mythical greek species of Giants. It is distinguished by the presence of its one eye. The mutant team member\leader of the x-men cyclops adopted this name of the mythical beast because of appearance his ruby quartz glasses[one used in battles not the sun-glasses type] give. he uses a special type of ruby quartz glasses that have a full view with no division in the middle like normal eyeware. hence giving him the appearance of having one eye. he has to wear the glasses to prevent optic blast rays from escaping his eyes. he had control over his power in his childhood but after an accident from a helicopter he damaged his brains nervous system which controlled his optic blast. since then he either has to close his eyes or wear the special ruby quartz glasses in order to preven his optic blast. because of this his vision is red. everything he see's is in red. the colour of his optic blast.
