I'm a 64 year old brit who went to London Uni 66-69. I saw Jimi Hendrix at Brixton club 68 when Geno Washington failed to show (Ram Jam Club?)
Anyway my point is that the Brits had stamina in rock which was failing in the US culture. I used to go see heroin activated Ginger Baker later in Cream and the Who etc, but the Americans seemed vulnerable not just Hendrix and Janis but the overhyped Doors and the talentless Morrisson vaunted by US fans wanting to end the Brit monopoly of great rock - remember Alvin of Ten Years After? - US had no answer!! we Brits had better stamina. !! the counterculture movement was all in your brain !!
