It killed a lot of people and ruined some lives by taking lives of other people real close to them and some didn't want to go to the military service because they probably had a family and they didn't have a choice but to go to the military service or be forced to by law. If they refused they would go to jail.

For boys, it meant that in a few years, they would be conscripted into the armed forces. For girls, it didn't mean anything per se, but it meant that they would probably end up working in a military-related industry.

You have to keep in mind that during the draft, they drafted kids who weren't old enough to vote for who was president. this was completely unfair to them because why should they go and serve their country when the president got them into this war. It affected all of their families "Bring the Boys Home"

Well for one thing if you were a young man at the time you had to factor the draft into any future plans you might be working on. Some also say it was unfair to the poor and lower middle class because if you could afford college you could get a deferrment. It also meant that many of the folks drafted did not want to be there and their performance suffered.

Although you rarely ever hear anyone say something good about president Nixon he was the President that really hated the draft. He is responsible for creating an envirnoment where we could actually make an all volunteer force work. By doing so, young men today can make plans for their future without having to worry about whether or not they will be drafted.
