Lots of people moved to islands which were less crowded (i.e migration from Java) to other islands where sustainable agriculture was implemented (unsuccessfully) what happened instead was that there was greater unemployed rates in Java and on the mainland since the Fathers (main money makers) had moved away and the islands were not qualified for farming (the soil wasn't exposed to mulching and so didn't respond well to aggressive farming methods) and also the indigenous people were shifted out of the area.
The Green Revolution was a series of studies and realizations beginning in 1940 and ending at around 1980 followed by technological improvements thus increasing the scope and ability to better grow and monitor agriculture. Unfortunately, it was not a global phenomenon and many countries are still in need.
