The Korean War was caused by the invasion of South Korea by North Korea in 1950 and the United Statesâ?? immediate resolution to protect South Korea. The war came to an end when President Eisenhower publicly hinted another nuclear attack might be needed. He allowed Taiwan to launch menacing air raids on Chinaâ??s mainland and applied pressure to South Korea for peace terms. All sides signed an armistice in July, 1953, putting an end to the conflict.

The Korean War began in June of 1950 because North Korea wanted to control South Korea. It ended in July of 1953 when President Truman and others negotiated a cease fire between North Korea and South Korea.
