At the same time there were several other Enlightenment movements, like in Scotland, Russia, Poland, North America and Spain. So it's really a series of related movements in the 18th century.

How are the enlightenment and great awakening similar?

Enlightenment and the great awakening, both are the same. When you awaken, you are enlightened, and when you are enlightened you are awakened. Who awakens? What awakens? The truth inside you.
