In 1888, a monument was erected on the Boston Common to the men killed in the Boston Massacre, listing all their names, and to the cause of the American Revolution.
After the Boston Massacre, tensions escalated between the American colonists and British authorities. The event was used as propaganda by the American patriots to rally support for their cause of independence. The incident also led to the trial of Captain Thomas Preston and his soldiers, with most being acquitted, which further fueled anger among the colonists and sowed the seeds of rebellion.
The Boston Massacre
It made more people support independence.
The primary cause was a tense situation in Boston brought on by British military presence. Fights broke out between soldiers and citizens, and eventually shots were fired after the citizens began rioting and attacking the soldiers. The result was the ensuing rebellion and eventual American Revolution.
The Boston Massacre was one of the pivotal "atrocities" committed by the British which galvanized the Americans against their former homeland. It took place in Boston Massachusetts in 1770. What appears to have happened was that an angry mob started harassing British soldiers. The soldiers panicked and fired a few shots into the crowd. Five people were killed and six were wounded. In my opinion, it was more of a well done publicity stunt by the patriots, than a massacre by the British, because in my mind 5 deaths is by no means a massacre, especially if it was in self defence. But whether it was a massacre or not, it was very useful to the patriots because it caused many people to support their cause.
