The primary cause was a tense situation in Boston brought on by British military presence. Fights broke out between soldiers and citizens, and eventually shots were fired after the citizens began rioting and attacking the soldiers. The result was the ensuing rebellion and eventual American Revolution.

The Boston Massacre happened when British soldier fired upon an angry crowd of Patriots. The Patriots were taunting the redcoats by saying "Fire!" while throwing snowballs at them. Once on of them fired, and after a silence, more shots were fired, killing 3 and wounding 8. After this, Governor Hutchinson commanded the British troops to get out of Washington. This also gave the Patriots even more confidence, and motive.
