Singapore is 117th largest country on earth by people with 4,701,069, the Philippines is 12th largest with 99,900,177 people. Singapore used to be a British colony until 1963; it is one of the busiest harbors in the world. The Philippines was a Spanish colony until 1898, at 34,000km it has the greatest coastline in the world.
Prior to WWII, the British Crown Colony enjoyed the social life attributed to the British Empire of the day. After the fall of Singapore in 1942, what British social life wasn't dismantled by the occupying Japanese, was used to entertain them.

Land, Tax, more knowledge taken from the people of Singapore [if they have some that the British did not], more CHEAP Labour, more resources...etc. etc.
The Japanese entered Singapore via the Causeway from Malaysia. This caught the British off-guard as the British always prepared for a war from the seas.
Singapore was occupied by the Japanese very early in WW2. They had no significant government at that time as they were a British colony.

The British liberated Singapore from the Japanese occupiers towards the end of World War I. However, there was food shortage, high rate of unemployment, worker strikes, and the populace was disgruntled with British occupation. The economy of Singapore recovered after several years.
Its "British empire" you silly slag! And to answer your question, because the japs were holding on to it and we were kinda at war with tham. :-) Singapore was attacked by the Japanese and Singapore was the major British military base in South East Asia, so Singapore belonged to Britain at that time, before they surrender Singapore to Japan and hence, Singapore was not attacked by the Britain Empire.
