To expand the land they own. Some of the england land they owned wasnt good for farming. religous freedom also was a big deal.

Maryland was created as a refuge for English Catholics. Georgia was created in order as a barrier between the the English colonies and the Spanish colonies. The English wanted to discourage Spanish expansion.

people who founded the Middle Colonies were looking to practice their own religion (Pennsylvania mainly) or to make money. Many of these people didn't bring their families with them from England and were the perfect workers for the hard work required in ironworks and shipyards.
