James K. Polk.
James Polk underwent surgery in 1849 to remove his gallbladder. This procedure took place after he had left the presidency, as he served from 1845 to 1849. The surgery was notable for its time, as surgical techniques were still quite rudimentary. Polk's health issues continued to affect him after his presidency, leading to his death in 1849.
President John Knox Polk didn't live for very long after his presidency- he died in 1849, about 100 days after leaving office. His home was in Nashville, Tennessee, and that is where he was buried.

James K. Polk's presidency (1845-1849) is historically significant for its expansionist policies, which culminated in the acquisition of vast territories through the Mexican-American War and the Oregon Treaty. His administration fulfilled the idea of Manifest Destiny, promoting the belief that the U.S. was destined to expand across the continent. This territorial expansion, however, intensified debates over slavery in the newly acquired lands, contributing to the sectional tensions that eventually led to the Civil War. Overall, Polk's presidency reshaped the nation's borders and set the stage for future conflicts over slavery and statehood.
Polk retired from the presidency on March 4, 1849 and died on June 15, 1849. He had the shortest retirement of any president who left office alive.
