Little is known of Biloxi culture of the Gulf of Mexico since the tribe was greatly reduced by disease prior to contact with Europeans and their remnant merged with the unrelated Caddo, Choctaw and Tunicas. They apparently lived neither in longhouses nor in tipis, but in the typical small, round cabins of the region; a deserted Biloxi village found in 1699 consisted of cabins constructed of mud (presumably over a wooden framework), thatched with tree bark. The Biloxi culture had therefore almost disappeared before any scientific study of their way of life could be carried out.
