Mohammed went into isolation for some time and began to dwell on his thoughts. At first, he claimed he was having visions from Satan, but his wife (and others) encouraged him that these must be signs from God. He wrote his version of the encounters, then he began to preach as the chosen "prophet of God." We are not actually sure exactly which writings are his anymore, because his own followers made edits to the Koran after his death (then began fighting each other over who his successors were). From the time around his death, Islam had a very radical and violent way of spreading their beliefs. Islam is a very "good sounding" belief, and has still been one of the top spreading beliefs of the world. You should definately do some research into it and not simply take my word. I do not practice nor do I believe in the teachings of Islam, but I have lived among it and studied it.
