It is true that due to skill, talent, sheer determination, wealth and modern amenities there are people that can surpass the saints in their humanitarian achievements. However, it is not the humanitarian achievement itself that makes a saint. The secret of the saint is a normal person doing normal things in an extraordinary manner. This extraordinary manner is contained in the intent of the saint - a saint does everything solely for the greater glory of God and to give charity towards his neighbor. A humanitarian does not have this full intention, and hence, though they may do great things and give great boons to mankind, they are not saints. While some humanitarians may be altruistic for such paltry reasons as fame, publicity and good public relations, others are sincere and do their actions out of kindness and genuine regard for their fellow man, however, even this altruistic intent is not a supernatural intent but a natural one. Only those that have a supernatural intent and who have practiced heroic virtue in their own lives are recognized as saints by the Catholic Church. All the saints in heaven, whether canonized or not, are there because of their supernatural intention and life of grace with God. And above these facts, Saintness in gift from GOD

Do the New Orleans Saints suck?

The New Orleans Saints do seem to suck... suck all of the talent of the universe into their very being, that is. With that talent, they become an almost unstoppable football team, and though they may have slip ups from time to time as any normal team would, they come back better than before.

Why have saints?

We all become saints when we get to Heaven. To be a saint means that you are pure and free from sin. Though all in Heaven are saints, some are specially recognized due to the extraordinary way they lived their faith. Thus, saints are role models of how to get to Heaven. We can use their ideas and imitate the way they imitated Christ.
