Well, most sailors would track and find there way by looking at certain stars and constellations to see what direction in which they were heading. Say they look for the north star, which is west. Their destination is east. So they knew to go south of the north star. This required much studying to find which star was where, what it looked like, and in which direction of the sky it was during the different seasons. This helped sailors to get to there destination faster, without getting stranded at sea. Many of these ships carried goods, so this affected early trade. Ancient cultures and civilizations came up with myths and tales for different groups of stars, thus becoming constellations. Some constellations became zodiac symbols, such as Scorpio and Cancer. This became a big deal for every astrophysicist, and it effected many cultures and traditions. Some say the Aztecs and the Mayans used to look up at the night sky to look for constellations, and see what is now called a UFO. There are pictograms of what looked like UFOs. But it could have been anything that they saw in the sky. So the stars affected eraly civilization very much, for it started many believes and traditions. p.s. this answer was done by a 6th grader!
