It did not. As long as the Temple stood, it brought atonement and blessing not only for the people of the Holy Land (Talmud, Ketuvot 10b), but for all the nations of the Earth as well (ibid, Sukkah 55b). And when the Temple was plundered and destroyed, it was through no fault of its own.
