World War II was affected directly by the 'Versailles Treaty' that was made after World War I. With its harsh punishment of Germany, which was held responsible for the world-wide conflict, the international treaty established conditions in post-war Europe that led directly to resentments that Hitler and his Nazi associates would utilize for the sake of fomenting the Second World War.
The Treaty of Versailles did not prevent war but rather provoked war. World War 1 led to World War 1 because of that treaty and the venom the Germans held toward that treaty.
