In Germany women had as hard a time during the war as anybody. Many lost their husbands, some were off fighting the war and some did not return. Either they had been killed or they were being held as prisoners of war. This lead the women into becoming the sole providers for their household. Especially in the taking of Berlin many women were raped by Soviet soldiers. This lead to many unwanted pregnancies, the women would then try to perform their own abortions, which could kill or severly injure them, or they would raise the children of their rapist which could lead to animosity between the child and the parent
