Joseph Stalin's version of helping during the Great Depression was to institute a planned economy and totalitarian communism in the Soviet Union. He took control over small peasant farms, sending millions of peasants to Siberia to work in labor camps and then obtained the farms' products for very low prices.

Well, Soviet Russia wasn't affected too badly by the depression because the stock market isn't part of Communist states, but Stalin did greatly increase his military, and this created more jobs, which could have been somewhat helpful.

Stalin also did a great deal of industrialization. This also created jobs and obviously increased the flow of money. And it would have helped the domestic products going out of the USSR at the time.

Most economists will say is that under Stalin, Russia had been in a permanent recession since the Bolshevik Revolution.

As far as Stalin being a Communist, well he systematically executed true Marxists and much of what the Russian Revolution was all about was turned into a cult of personality. The personality many will say was Stalin.

A look at the writings of Leon Trotsky will give a different and negative view of Russia under Stalin.

What was the relationship between Roosevelt and Stalin in World War 2?

Roosevelt and Stalin were the two great appeasers in history. Both were cowards who allowed Hitler to slaughter millions.AnswerRoosevelt thought he could control Stalin, thought he could trust Stalin, thought Stalin was a man who thought like him and desired the same things as him. Roosevelt was a fool to believe this. Stalin was a greedy, totalitarian dictator who would take whatever he could from anyone he could. He couldn't believe his luck that Roosevelt treated him so well and took everything he could from the American President, lying to him and ignoring treaties between them and Chuchill to get what he wanted then lying to Roosevelt again to keep what he wantedAs everyone around Roosevelt began to understand what a two-faced, self-serving man Stalin was and counciled Roosevelt to be more stern with him FDR continued in the mistaken belief that he could control and trust Stalin.FDR's trust in Stalin was one of the greatest mistakes any American President has ever made.
