Trick Photography, specifically- and probably theatrical strobe lights with multi-colored filters- here Ultra Violet. these could be pulsed on and off at variable rates as they were strobe lights. these things were still in use- at a St. Patrick"s day pageant in l964 which this writer remembers well, they were bulky- looked like Gatling Guns- and in the 3.l7 outing naturally green filters were paramount.
