Human organisms have carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and proteins in their bodies. Some of the lipids in the finger can leave an oily residue on the window. So in order to take finger prints from a window, one trick is to take clear Duct Tape and place it on top of the fingerprint and the oils attached to the sticky residue on the tape. This allows CSI to have an imprint of the fingerprint and can make a scan of it into their database.
CSI technicians use powder or chemical solutions to make fingerprints visible on surfaces. They carefully lift the prints using tape or specialized tools without smudging them. The lifted prints are then analyzed and compared to known prints in databases to identify potential suspects.
