A traditional Catholic Funeral depends on the culture that the funeral is being held in. The traditional Catholic Western Cultural funeral begins with a mass in which the body is blessed, mass is said, and the body is placed in the grave. the biggest difference is that there is a catholic mass in the funeral rights.
This is covered at the link below. It would appear that the Maori rites are held prior to the actual funeral which would be Catholic if the deceased had been a Catholic. So the Maori rites would be more like the viewing ceremony held the night before a funeral in the western Church, at which the mourners would welcome friends of the deceased, and perhaps pray the rosary or other prayers.
