Folic acid is extremely important in our bodies. It is necessary for cell division (DNA replication). This means you need it for growing new cells, bone, and especially during the growth of new tissues such as during pregnancy. Without enough folic acid during pregnancy, a child could suffer from neurotubular defects.

What two vitamins can your body make?

Vitamins are organic substances that can't be made by the body, so they have to be eaten. Exceptions to this are vitamin D, vitamin K, biotin, and folic acid. These vitamins are present in certain foods, but our bodies have other ways of obtaining them. skin and kidneys are involved in making vitamin D, and that good-guy bacteria in the intestines make vitamin K. Bacteria in the intestine also manufacture biotin and folic acid.

Supplementation with B-complex can be more convenient than supplementing with each B vitamin individually, and can also help to ensure adequate intake of each of these important nutrients
