I believe it doesn't directly pollute the environment but greatly affect the ecosystem of most animals and plants. The forests or peace of land converted to Golf courses kill animals and plants living in that land so technically, it don't do any good. It just looks beautiful on our eyes because of the greens but behind those are homeless animals and dead plants.
