cut a length of fabric slightly longer than your jeans. hem the skinny top portion. match right side to right side, putting the hemmed portion at the top of where you want your stripe to start putting the selvage next to the existing seam. sew down the length of the fabric. when you get to the bottom, cut about 1/2 inch longer than the hemmed bottom of the pants and turn up, catching the unfinished edge. stop. go back up to the top and fold a edge under, press to make it easier to work with. sew down this length from top to bottom. top stitch the other side for a nicer, even look. it is very awkward to work with jeans in this way. you may wany to hand sew it from the outside, making sure you only go through one layer of fabric!!
