You actually need a special tool. We went to Auto Zone and they can rent the tools to you.
Use a C clamp to push the piston out of the way to remove and also to place back on rotor.
You will need the tool to retract the calipers. The piston in the rear calipers have to be turned clockwise as you compress them back in.
It requires a special tool to twist the piston back into the caliper.
The rear brake calipers screw back in. This is because of the park brake. There is a tool that you can either buy or rent from one of the larger parts stores.
To compress the rear brake calipers on a 2008 Taurus X, you will need a brake caliper tool or a C-clamp. First, remove the wheel and brake caliper to access the piston. Then, either use the caliper tool to rotate the piston back into the caliper housing or place the C-clamp over the caliper and gently compress the piston straight back. Ensure the brake fluid reservoir is checked to avoid overflow during this process.
Rewind it with a piston rewind tool or, at a pinch, use needle nose pliers.
rear brake pistons are called actuated pistons. And the twist in and out. You will need a special tool to twist them back into the caliper. Unlike the Front Pistons which can be pushed back.
use a large c-clamp aiso use the old brake shoe on the caliper piston to squeeze it back in
The calipers should turn back in with a big scredriver or such! you have to rotate the piston to retract them rotae the pistons clockwise with a large pair of pliers
Luid You can open the cap on the fluid container when you compress the calipers back it will force the fluid back and then you bleed them to remove any air in the lines.
You will need a 3/8" allen wrench to remove the anchor pins for the calipers and a "C" clamp to compress the piston back into the caliper.
you take a pair of plyers or a caliper kit from autozone and turn in the calipers. You have to turn them clockwise to make them go back in. do not try and compress them in, you will damage them.
