How do you test SSR?

To test any SSR, you need a Power Supply and a voltmeter. An SSR has a coil and a set of contacts. For example if you have a 24vdc SSR that is switching 480 volts, you need a 24vdc Power Supply and some other source of voltage that you can measure across the contacts. It is best to have a variable power supply you can raise. Most SSRs operate in a range - for example 10-30vdc is very common. If you put 120volts on one side of the contacts and apply 9 volts to the coil, you will see ZERO VOLTS output on the opposite side of the Relay. But as you raise the voltage to 10, you should begin to see voltage on the output side of the relay. SSR Switching is not always totally on or totally off because they use SCRs or Transistors to do the switching. Also there is a broad range of Solid State Relays - so be sure you understand the characteristics of the SSR before you start testing. I know of no other way to test the SSR - in other words, I don't think you can test it with just a multimeter. You need to drive it with the proper voltages to get an idea of whether it actuallly works.

How do you attach Christmas lights to a stereo?

It's complicated, but you have to make a relay (SSR) that connects to the output of the stereo, and connect the lights to the relay. Heres a website that shows how to do it: http://computerchristmas.com/christmas/link-how_to/HowToId-68/4-channel_SSR_to_go_with_the_controller_in_the_How_To
