you need to either plant a whole apricot or just the seed or buy an apricot tree from a nusery. then you need to make sure it gets water and put a net over it (as the birds love them). then you can enjoy apricots for ages. (the first year you might not get any apricots but the next year you will and every year you will get more.
for all fruit trees,,,,,,,dig a 10$ hole for a 5$ tree, that means twice the size of the root ball, loosen the dirt at the bottom and put this mixture in the hole before you plant 5 parts bonemeal, 2 parts gypsum, and 1 part epsom salt......and put some of the mixture on top after you plant,,,,,make sure you plant as deep as the tree was at the nursery, or a little deeper, pack the soil firm around the roots.........don't forget to water, this helps to get the soil close to the roots........never put fertilizer in the hole, you will burn the tender roots....
well, depends on where you live.
i have heard that a few things can help.
keeping in mind ....is the tree old enough to produce blossoms?
if it is at least 4 yrs old it should , then here are a few options.
a. take a 1-2 ft length of garden hose and (only if the tree is sturdy ) give the trunk a few good wacks up and down . this stimulates the sap and makes the tree think it might die from injury so it will want to put out seeds aka blossoms first.
b. take a shovel and at about 3ft from the trunk , plunge it into the ground at 3 different places , this temporarily injures a small percent of the surface roots , again same idea as above.
c. feed the plant with blossom enhancing fertilizer
d. try making an umbrella type devise (i used cheap white plumbers PVC pipe 3/4inch diam approx 3 lengths =18ft and heavy duty painters clear plastic sheet, heavy duty nylon string , rebar 8 rebar pounded in at even intervals eg north , south east west ,northwest, eastwest , etc) then threaded the pipe onto the rebar and made what looked for all the world like a giant jelly fish over the top of the plant making sure that there was a gap of about 2-3 ft at the bottom so bees etc could enter.
we have very late spring frosts so around the first week of feb i erected the "umbrella aka jellyfish" over my tempamental peach tree and that year i did not spray for leaf curl and we had the biggest crop of peaches we have ever had . good luck
