You import your music, pictures, videos, etc to it or you purchase music from the itunes store with a debit/credit card.
iTunes automatically downloads the CD to your iTunes library - you can then transfer them to your ipod. If you are downloading a complete CD image from the net then you will have to burn the CD to import it to iTunes. If you are downloading the files as mp3's then you can simply drag them into your iTunes library and from there into your ipod. Hope that answers your question.

Import the songs from a music CD
With LimeWire 5.3.6 it automatically opens iTunes to import newly downloaded MP3s. Under the LimeWire Tools > Options > iTunes > Configure > & uncheck the option of Enable iTunes Importing. Then press the Apply button.
You can email yourself the MP3 file.
Itunes will not import songs in Windows Media (.wma) format.
on PC it is file>import to itunes on mac its preferences > import to itunes click on what you want
