How do I position the wiper motor arm with the linkage so it does not bind on a 1990 Montero?

Take off the wiper arms, turn off wipers then put the arms back on about 3 inches above the rubber seal on the bottom of the windshield. Unless you didn't put the linkage on correctly when you removed it. Mine sits towards the driverside on the motor.

If one wants to replace a wiper linkage there are a few steps involved. Pull the wiper arm away from the windshield until the arm locks in vertical position. Unbolt the nut that holds the wiper arm to the linkage and pull the wiper arm off the linkage. Open the hood and unbolt the wiper motor and slide the motor off of the linkage. One then will remove the wiper linkage and install a new one.

A wiper motor cannot just be installed, you must also adjust the linkage. Now operate the wipers manually by moving the linkage, and before you connect the linkage to the motor, make sure the linkage is in the right position and will operate properly.
