1.) There are six screws the NEED to be taken out before step 1 is complete

using a small pick tool or flat head remove the instrument panel you start this by using a little force at the front of the panel to pry it up then it should just come strait out... then remove the door handle cover.

Using a Large long flat head at the back of the door panel gently push the driver in and using a little force pull the panel towards you (if you are staning and looking at the panel...

remove the black plastic liner in your front passenger side wheel-well...this can be done with the removal of a few screws or rivets..... The power antenna motor and assembly will then be easily accessed. Remove the old one (not much to it) and replace, sites such as Ebay offer new ones for under $40 dollars.

A backfire is when the ignition of fuel doesn't take place in the ignition/combustion chamber, it(a backfire) can take place in the intake or exhaust. It can be caused by a fuel to air ratio not being correct, also if the timing of the spark is not just right that could cause it to back fire. It could be running lean with not enough fuel and too much air, or could have too much fuel and not enough air. It could be because the intake valves are not shut when the combustion takes place, therefore the combustion would take place in the wrong spot. The most likely cause are from: 1. Incorrect timing, the timing issue could be caused by bad wiring/ or bad ignition. 2. Incorrect fuel to air ratio, bad fuel filter, low fuel pressure-caused by weak fuel pump.

I had this same issue. Take out the radio and call a Mitsubishi dealer. You will need to serial number, and they can look it up on some site they only have access to. Blame the oil change people for leaving the air filter sensor unplugged when starting the car, then having to unplug the battery to reset the check engine light.

remove the nobs and bolts behind them, take off the face plate, then you should see the little screws holding the stario inplace. The #s are on the back .

if your gentle you can pull the cup holder slightly out and insert a small flat head screw driver inside to lift up the bottom plate of the cup holder assembly and the number is written on the front top of the radio.

I just removed the cup holder and used a small mirror (like the one a dentist uses, available at hobby stores) and a flash light to read them. You should see 2 sets, 1 begins with "MR" that's the part # and the other is the serial #. Just remember that after you write them down to reverse them.

Disconnect the TPS sensor connector. It's the lower of the 2 connectors. The other one is the idle sensor. Turn ignition key to on. At throttle fully closed, the reading on termial C of the connector should read 0.4v to 0.5v. (Looking INTO the connector with the notch on the connector pointing UP, C is the right most pin) At throttle fully open, the reading should be 4v. If readings are wrong Loosen the 2 holding screws (only enough to twist the sensor). Adjust accordingly. Tighten the screws.

fun messy job here. drain radiator from underneath first. put buckets and old towels down to catch spilled anti-freeze, it is illegal to allow it to dump into the soil. next unhook upper and lower radiator hoses, then you have to unhook the transmission cooler lines, may be difficult with the age on it, so be careful not to break it or round it out. if it looks rusted hit it with wd40 first, let it sit in, then attempt. after you have that unhooked, take the air intake port out, should just be 2 bolts, 10mm heads. then the radiator will come out usually fairly easy. if you have issues with any of this, stop and seek help from a trained technician.

In North America, VINs are required to have a 17 Digit Number, this number is easiest viewed from the Windshield tag. This system was implemented in 1979/1980. By "Rear Right Type", I am Assuming Firewall? This would be the Frame code, and this Differs from the VIN. This is basically a serial number. Look closely to your Frame number and VIN Number You will find the last several digits to be the same as the last several digits of the Frame Number.

Your Vehicle was in a major accident and either required a new frame, or body.... Or it's stolen.

Programming for a 2000 to 2004 Montero Sport

1. Locate the Data Port under the dash near the base of the steering wheel column. ______________________ \ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 / \ 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 / \___________________/

2. Insert keys in ignition and leave in the OFF position.

3. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 1, and connect the Data Port terminal 1 with a suitable jumper wire to a good ground, leave jumper wire connected through out the programming procedure. Make sure you know which terminals are 1 and be sure to use a fused jumper wire for safety.

4. Within 10 seconds after connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition switch to the ACC position and then back to OFF (do this as quick as you can). Repeat this procedure two more times (very quickly-you should be able to get the 3 ACC to OFF cycles in less than 2 seconds). Note: The doors will automatically lock and unlock once at this time indicating that the system is in the programming mode.

5. Press the LOCK button on the remote to be registered three times within 10 seconds. Upon successful programming, the doors will lock and unlock once.

6. If there are two remotes, register the first, then register the second by repeating step 5 within one minute. After completing the second programming, the doors will lock and unlock once.

7. Disconnect the programming wire and remove the keys from the ignition.

8. Check operation of remotes.

egr solenoid is the most common problem. The EGR Solenoid has a vacuum hose at the top running from the EGR Valve and one vacuum hose that connects to the upper intake manifold. The solenoid is brown in color. Try replacing all of the vacuum hoses before anything first for only 3.00 this could fix your problem as well. (you have a vacuum diagram on your hood)

The wiper arm should have a removable cap at the lowest pivot point where the arm meets the firewall/hood level. With the cap removed there should be a 10-12mm nut exposed that requires loosening and removal to slip the arm off the grooved spindle and re-mount to the readjusted/desired coverage area. Re-tightened once adjusted to to avoid slippage while in operation.

This engine is what they call an "interference" engine. That means unless the valves are closed

when the piston reaches TopDeadCenter they will collide and the pistons will bend the valve,

driving it into both the cylinder heads and piston crowns with devastating results. Your timing belt

is usually rated for 60,000 miles. It may last longer. Waiting for it to fail to save money is not really

a good option as when, (not if) it does fail while in service, your engine will be destroyed.

How do you replace antenna on 1998 Montero Sport?

If you just want to replace a broken mast, you just need to get a new antenna mast core from the dealership. The replacement is easily done by unscrewing the lock ring around the antenna on the top of the fender and pulling out the core. You may have to turn on the radio to extend the plastic feeder tread out from the antenna. Then put the new antenna core back in, turn off the radio to wind-up the geared tread, and attach the lock ring.

If you want to replace the whole antenna assembly, then it gets complicated. The antenna assembly can be accessed easily enough by going up through the right front wheel well. You have to remove the wheel and the skirt under the wheel well to get to it. The antenna is removed by detaching a bracket that is secured to the inside body (one or two bolts are easy to remove) and the lock ring on top of the antenna. The problem is that the antenna cable is part of the antenna and you have to remove the radio and parts of the dash around the glove box in order to install a new one. Also be careful with third-party antennas because they may not fit the bracket. There must be an easier solution, but I haven't found one yet.
