You do not remoye the lens from the front of the car. head lamp bulbs are removed from the back of the assembly from inside the engine compartment. Note that your car has separate high beam and low beam bulbs. the ones toward the outside are low beam. Tip;do not handle the replacement lamp by touching the glass bulb ,only touch the plastic plug.you can damage the surface or connection.
1 bolt on top of light. 2 bolts behind fender. remove dust cover in wheel well to reach fender bolts.
remove air filter and air filter box and then you can get to starter dont forget to disconnect battery

you have to remove the dash and every thing attached to it. Is it the same for a 1988 Mazda 929?

The flasher unit on a Mazda 323 is located on the end of the flasher lever. Remove the lower steering column to bring the unit to view.
Remove the fuel tank or remove the bed.
you have to remove the lower radiator hose and the thermostat is located between the radiator hose and engine block. There are two screws holding a mounting bracket over top of it to hold it in place. Remove the two screws and the thermostate should be accessible.
Remove the starter and inspect the ring gear on the flywheel.
