You have to take those to the shop. I have one and tried and messed up on it dont do what i did pleeease! you can do it no problem. take off the upper intake manifold. the cover that says 5.0 EFI has 2 bolts underneath. 2 on the rear of the upper then 2 in the front. if it is the pass. side valve cover then flip the upper over to the driver side watching out for the coolant hoses and the vacuum hoses on the upper. mark all hoses. then go to town on the valve cover.

Instructions given here are for all front wheel drive Cadillacs from 1985 to 1995 with the 4.1, 4.5 or 4.9 motor. Thermostat on the 92 DeVille 4.9 motor is captured between the upper thermostat housing (it is usually black steel and the radiator upper hose is clamped to it) and the lower (aluminum) housing. How do you remove the front rear struts on a 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood FWD 4.1 liter?
most vehicles are the same when it comes to removing struts. on fwd vehicles you need to remove both tires and detatch both lower ball joints. if the vehicle has upper control arms i have found it easier to remove those ball joint nuts, than to mess around with the lower ones...then remove the axle from the spndle to gain access to eht strut assembly retainer bolts. the remove the nuts holding the upper mount in place for the strut. Rmove the lower bolts that hold the strut to the spindle/ lower control arm. if it conects directly to the spindle, MARK the bolt and hardware positioning BEFORE removing the bolts (this helps with alignment issues afterwords..then place the strut/spring assemble in a proper coil spring remover and remove the spring, then replace the old worn out strut with the new one (REMEMBER to match the parts up before installation, saves on time and possible "no return" items..) match the positions on the spring and the seat in the strut...then reinstall the strut assembly back into the vehicle... the rears are not much different...ENJOY
