FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!Disconnect the neg battery cable from the battery. Then wait a few minutes before disconnecting the air bag connection.

From the manual (which you should buy if you are going to do this job safely), you need to disconnect the battery and wait for a few minutes before attempting to work on the steering wheel. Not terribly difficult if you are comfortable working with the airbag, but also not something to do without the PICTURES in the manual.
