Yes. Depending on which DVR you have it is possible. Call Dish and they can tell you the procedure.
The type of external hard drive that would be compatible would be a USB 2.0 external hard drive, with an external power source (not powered by the receiver's USB port.) The EHD minimum size would be 50GB and the maximum size is 2TB. In general, major brand-name external EHDs sold today are compatible, but currently only single EHD units are supported.
At this point, if your talking about your computer, you can't. But if your talking about an external hard drive hooked up to the box, you can. In your list of recorded programs, go to external devices, select your hard drive, then from there you can select the programs that you want to transfer. You can continue to watch tv in the background while it is performing this action. Hope this helps, and good luck!
DISH NETWORK AND DIRECTV are working on that option for their DVRs. DISH NETWORK's option allows the use of a standard external USB drive, but it formats in a propietary format so it cannot be moved from one DVR to another. Thank you RIAA and MPAA for that wonderful option! DISH NETWORK currently has a series of DISHPlayers that video can be downloaded through the USB port on the DVR to the DISHPlayer personal video player
You are not able to transfer the recordings from the DVR receiver to your computer. The programming language used for the receiver is different than that used for computers. You can use an external hard drive connected to your receiver to give you more storage capacity. It's either you use a USB cable or an HDMI cable.
The USB port on the Dish receiver is for WiFi adapter or external hard drive. Your Internet broadband service is going to dictate the speed you will get while connected. Thanks.
The fit a cable to an external aerial dish, one must check the satellite receiver to find the coaxial socket. Connect the cable from your satellite receiver to the external antennae socket.
Unfortunutely, you can't. But you can transfer them over to a hard drive. Your owners should tell you how to do this. Good luck!
The external hard drive is supported on our 211, 211k, 411, 612, 622, 722, 722k, and 922 receivers. It will support single tier hard drives from 50 GB to 2 TB DVR receivers and 50 GB to 1TB non-DVR receivers (211, 211k, 411). You can use external hard drives in like receiver families so if a receiver is replaced it will still work if you have the same receiver model (722 for a 722). The rest of the information below is correct except for the hard drive sizes. Some Dish Network DVR support moving of TV programs to an external USB 2.0 hard drive. The ViP 622 has this feature and they support up to 750GB hard drives. However, this doesn't let you read the drive on a PC and copy these files somewhere else such as DVD. This is also supported on the ViP722 as well. However, you can't record directly to the external drive but you can move video to it and play directly from the drive. You can use multiple external drives on the same Personal Video Recorder or PVR.
