You could just put the dry ice in the cooler and keep the cooler closed as much as possible. Don't seal it in an airtight way ... that would be bad, since as the dry ice sublimes it will build up gas pressure in the cooler. If you're lucky, it will just make opening it rather more exciting than usual, since the lid will probably pop open on its own as soon as you unlatch it. If you're unlucky, it could explode, or at least rupture.

This may not be the most brilliant idea ever, though, because dry ice is quite a bit colder than regular water ice (about 110 degrees below zero on the Fahrenheit scale). Your drinks will almost certainly freeze solid at that temperature.

Use A Cooler For More Than One Trip?

Taking the kids on a day trip to a pool or amusement park is fun and you can save money by taking drinks and food in a cooler. You can get a cooler at any store for a few dollars. Before you add anything to the cooler, put ice in it so everything stays cold. Once the ice is in the cooler, add the drinks that you plan to take and sandwiches, too. After you are finished with the cooler, empty the ice or melted water and use it for another trip.

Why is it that when you leave food out it turns cold but when you leave drinks out it turns hot?

Usually, food is heated to a temperature hotter than the temperature of a room, about 160F. and drinks are usually much cooler than room temperature around 45F or less. So both hot food and cold drinks will eventually equal the temperature of the space or room they are left in.
