First off, start small! Summarize it in a sentence or two. Then write down characters and what they're all about. From there expand your sentence summary, and keep going. The beginning is by far the hardest, but once you're past there the words flow from your pen like water. Good luck!

A "footprint story" is a story about YOUR memories, not ours. We cannot tell you what memories you have inside your head. You need to figure out what memories you want to write about and put them down. Pretend you are just talking to a friend and describe the memories.

if you want to add atmosphere to the story, and make the reader want to read on to understand it and to know what has actually happened to the characters if it is a dramatic prologue, then i think a prolougue is a good idea. You can write a prologue for any length of story - long or short.
