Any conservative clothing will do. Contrary to popular opinion, Israel is just as cosmopolitan as any other nation. As it depends on when you are going, think in terms of what you would wear to Florida in high summer. Obviously you are not going to wear a bikini on the street, but simple summer clothing will do nicely. If you are considering church sightseeing or visiting the Wailing Wall, a scarf is the minimum and a hat is better.
