Although the Mexican army retreated when the Americans attacked, it is said that these six boys (all under 19) stayed to fight for their country. What these boys did has yet to be proved, but, either way there is still a monument in their honor.

The "Los Niños Héroes" (Heroic Cadets) were six teenage military cadets who died defending Chapultepec Castle in Mexico City during the Mexican-American War in 1847. They are celebrated as national heroes in Mexico for their bravery and loyalty to their country.
The Los Ninos Heroes. Six young men, a Lieutenant and five Cadets who refused the order to retreat and defended their flag to the last man. Because they gave no quarter and accepted no quarter, they, like the men at the Alamo knew that this was their final battle.
