"Crossing the border illegally" is an ambiguous term.
Some unauthorized immigrants enter the United States with non-immigrant visas and remain after the visa expires. This type of Immigration occurs most commonly with tourist visas, student visas, and the so-called visa láser.

EWI is accomplished almost always with the assistance of a paid guide referred to as a coyote or pollero.
Well the rich ones come with a Visa. The ones that can't afforded it risk there lives by trusting some stranger that crosses them. But they still have to pay the stranger and the prices is usually high most of them end up selling everything they have in order to pay the coyote, and if they don't pay up with the money they end up paying in other was it's very sad.
Mexicans illegally cross the border to the US by digging holes underneath it and climbing through. Some succeed, but many don't because there are Immigrant Officers on Border Patrol who stop them.

People trying to cross the border usually go at night because they think that they can't be seen, but Border Patrol have infrared cameras so they can see anybody, in all light.
If you try to cross over, you will just get taken back to the other side, but many people just try again the next day, and keep trying until they get through without being caught.
