Different members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) may celebrate the birth of a baby differently based on their family and cultural traditions.
Religiously, Mormons have 'baby blessings' for new babies, generally held when the baby is a few months old. These are celebrated similar to christenings, infant baptisms, or naming ceremonies among other religous traditions.
Baby blessings are held during the regular Sunday worship service at the parent's congregation. Near the beginning of the service, the father (if an ordained Elder) or another ordained male of the family's choosing will bring the baby to the front of the room. Congregation leaders and other ordained friends and family are ususally invited to participate. They will form a circle holding the baby, and the father will give the blessing. Generally the blessing includes giving the child a name and blessing them to have good health, a happy life, etc. Traditionally the baby will wear white although this isn't a requirement. Either before or after the service, the family will often host a lunch or breakfast. It is common for the parents to invite extended family, friends, and neighbors to the blessing of their baby. Guests are not expected to bring gifts but may do so if they choose.
